Confession of a Wanna-Be Frugaler and Greenie

May 9th, 2008 at 06:26 pm

I did something I never thought I would do. Sure, I had heard stories of other people doing this. I even knew a couple of people personally who did this. But I, did not ever thing, I, would be one of those people. Oh, but I am now.

Yesterday I...

(I don't know if I can even admit it)

...wash 4 ziplock baggies from lunch, hung them up to dry, and plan to reuse them.

Yes, it's true. I am now a ziplock baggies reuser. I always figured it wasn't worth the small amount I would save. But then I read about how it helps the environment in the TG, and I was hooked. We are trying to be more green, as well as more frugal.

Not throwing away 4 plastic baggies after one use? Maybe saved a buck or so. Not throwing away 4 plastic baggies after one use? Most likely helped save the environment a little.

lol... never thought about the environmental impact on this one, even though it's something I've done often. Just couldn't see throwing away a baggie that had a piece of bread or something like that in it. Always seemed quite reusable to me!!

I switched from using baggies to plastic containers as it is not easy to throw out for the same reason on environmental impact.

I always washed and reused ziplocks, unless they had raw meat in them. I hang them on the clothesline in the garage along with my Debbie Meyer Green Bags!

I reuse them too after I wash them out and let them dry.

I reuse plastic baggies all the time. The only ones I don't reuse are the ones that held any type of meat or really greasy items.

Awesome! I've done it once or twice but really should do it more often. (I do put more things in washable tupperware, but sometimes I'm out of the right size and use ziplocs instead.) I shall make more of an effort, for the earth and my grocery budget. Thanks for the nudge!

I do this all the time and have been know to reuse "clean" aluminum foil. It is what my depression era grandma used to do (she went so far as to wash and reuse plastic ware-I am not that bad yet). Recycling isn't always about throwing something in a bin. Smile

Baselle that is so funny because it's easier to cram zip locks in my frig. Ha Ha.
