The Most Amazing Thing Just Happened!

June 13th, 2008 at 05:57 pm

I'm still kind of in shock. BF and I decided to go to BK for lunch today (I know, I know...) since he had a game prize for a free Whopper.

While we were waiting in line, a woman in front of us had 2 girls. Maybe 7 or 8. One was staring out the window, fascinated by the cars. At first I thought she was autistic. When her Mom went to take her to the table, she started crying and screaming, and hitting herself in the head. I felt so bad, I was in tears.

While her Mom was at the table with the 2 girls, I went over and asked if she wanted me to grab their order for them when it was ready. She said That would e great, thank you. I'm going to take them out to the car." (The girl was still screaming and crying). So while she put the girls in the car, I grabbed their order, cups, and the woman's sunglasses (he had left them on the table). I took them outside to her and asked if she wanted me to fill her cup with a drink (those self-serve ones). I went back in, filled it with soda and gave it to her.

She was so nice and grateful. We talked for a few minutes about her daughter (she has CP) and when I was leaving to go back inside, she said "Thank God for sending you to help me today. You're and angel. God bless you."

It was so nice and I felt so good and happy tingly.

Then, BF and I were sitting at a table eating, and all of a sudden this older gentleman appears. Maybe in his mid 60's or so. He says "I just wanted to tell you that was the niceest thing the way you helped that woman. If it was my daughter, I would have been so proud." Awww. So now I am feeling extra happy tingly and good.

Then he says "I'd like to buy you lunch." Of course we said "No, thank you, it isn't necessary." But he kept saying "Yes, please, let me." And before we can stop him, he drops a $50 bill on our tray and walks away!!

BF and I kind of stared at each other in amazement for a second. I turned around to see if I could stop him to return the money and tell him it wasn't necessary, and he was gone. Gotten in his car and driven away!

I still can't believe it!!!

And I know this will sound kooky to some people, but I totally believe in Karma and in the universe helping you get what you need most if you put that thought out there. Right now, with the job situation, what we need most is money.

And with the lady saying "God Bless You," I almost feel like it was something in the Universe working there. If I had been alone, I'm not sure I would have belived he was a real person and not some spitit or angel or something. We didn't see him anywhere in the (small) restaurant until he was right next to us, and then, Poof, he was gone just as quickly. I'm almost tempted to say it was some kind of devine intervention or something. I've always been a believer that the Universe will help you get what you need (I'm Wiccan), but I'm still kinda of flabergasted.

Nothing like that has ever happened to me before. Once or twice I've had someone tell me I did a kind thing helping someone else out, but WOW!

I'm going to add it as $20 Challenge money since it came from a (very) unexpected place. Not sure where to put it though; maybe in the house fund... Big Grin

Old House Fund Balance: $25.01
Angel-man Gift: $50.00

New House Fund Balance: $75.01

wow. thats an amazing story. i just had a woman bite my head off because i walked out of an elevator with my two (leashed) dogs and her daughter is allergic to dogs and I need to watch where I'm going.
(why live in a pet friendly apartment when your kid is allergic? And why is her kid not on a leash so she's not in front of elevators when they open up??)

Grrr...but good for you to have the insight and tolerance to help out a stranger when they are having a problem. I like your story, and hope that soon you can post another story for another good deed being rewarded.

That is so awesome! You never know who may be watching your actions.

It reminds me of a story in a children's series of books (Uncle Arthur's Bedtime Stories) about the girl with a million dollar smile. Essentially an older man (unrelated) noticed this one little girl who always was cheerful and polite, etc. When he died, he left her a good chunk of money.

Absolutely, karma! Good job! Reminds me of the movie "Pay it Forward."

What a nice man. Clearly, he had $50 to spare and chose to use it to increase HIS karma, too.

    Love it!!

Karma indeed!! You increased your Karma and by recognizing you for your good deed, he in turn did a good deed and increased his Karma. You can't get a better Karma story than that!

I love those feel good feelings! I don't know why I don't try to help people more than I do, considering how good it feels.

The $50 was just icing on the cake! Thanks for sharing... I feel good now, too Smile

    That is awesome!!

Not quite the story, but my mom started paying the toll for the person behind her, on the bridge, when she visits us on occassion. I think she started doing it because someone paid her toll once. (Very "PAy it Forward"). Well, wouldn't you know, it seems like half the time now someone pays her toll for her. I told her she had money karma. I believe in karma, but didn't usually think it was so "an eye-for-an-eye." LOL.

You just renewed my faith in people. Your compassion and kindness towards that little girl and her mother will never be forgotten.

that's so lovely, both that you helped the poor woman and that you got a reward for it from a very nice man. kind-ness is not something we see everyday now. i too try and do kind things (mostly extends to helping people to their car with stuff they bought from my work or opening the door for them - but i do try). hopefully by posting about it you have made others remember to be kind as well! Smile

I am not one for karma but a true believer in God and I believe that it was He who provided you the $50. What a nice story.
I remember when I totalled my car, I never at the time wore a seat belt (barely) any how all day I kept seeing my self in a car accident. One car cut me off , another I almost hit and so on. Anyhow I was leaving my dad's (seat belt not on) and then suddenly it was almost like a whisper something said put your seat belt on and as soon as I did (I am talking seconds)a car cut in front of me I hit them and then a cement pole which pushed my entire front end in. With God's intervention, I believe that is why I am here.
Yes I know that there are those who don't believe and I do not hate them because of it but I tell He spoke to me that day
    What a wonderful story, really

God has sent Angels to me alot- when my dad passed away and I was on the way down to Texas to get my twin sister, I had some wonderul McKee Foods truck drivers right next to me- they kept blowing their horns, pointing to their McKee shirts and giving me a, "thumbs up", and even when anoother trucker had a blown out tire, they were right next to me- McKee Foods ( who makes Little Debbie snack cakes, is a Seventh-day Adventist company, and I am an Adventist- I called and asked logistics but they couldn't really point out 3 drivers- they said it was really, "odd", that 3 drivers would be headed at the same time to Arkansas. Daddy seen Angels and Jesus before he passed away, and told the nursing home he would be leaving within a month- he passed away within 1 month!!! I ordered hima casket with Angels on it- gold ones.

I have heard it said that whatever you send out into the world, whether it be good or bad, comes back to you times three. I don't think you were going for going for a gold medal here (or in this case $50). You were just being a good neighbor and that's all. I am sure that the thanks and smile on this woman's face was enough to put a smile on your face for the rest of the day. Random acts of kindness are sometimes rewarded. One of my favorite movies is "Pay it Forward."
