First Day at New Job

January 4th, 2008 at 02:00 am

Today was my 1st day at the new job and it was great! I felt right at home. Eveything was really casual and relaxed (I love wearing jeans to work and listening to my iPod while I work!) and everyone was really nice. A nice bonus too, is I actually knew what I was doing. Guess I did pick some stuff up at my last job!

The commute was OK. I get home about 7:30 so it is about a 13 hour day for me. I just keep telling myself it is only 4 months, and then, if by any chance I can get a permanent job there, we can afford to move closer to the city so the commute will be better. But for now, it's only a short time, the money is excellent, the experience is great, and I can read ofr na hour on the way home every night. Smile

Congrats on the job! Sounds like my idea of a great work environment - one of the reasons I chose to go back to school for hygiene was because I get to wear scrubs everyday! *grin*

I am curious. I love books and proofreading. Do you think there are work at home opportunities for this type of work and what would the credentials need to be? Hope this is not a bother. As we all seem to be as members of this site, I'm always on the lookout for money making opportunities! Smile

marianne...there is definately opportunity to do freelance work. That's acttually what i am ...a freelancer. I know all companies want slightly different qualifications, but a degree in english or writing helps, and so does some experience with proofreading. One thing to think of; proofreading is actually checking the page for design, layout, art, etc. copy-editing is the work of looking for grammatical errors and such. There are a lot of online places where you can register to be a copy editor/proofreader and then bid on jobs. it offers good experience. good luck!

Thanks for the tips, Koppur! So I guess I am really talking about copy-editing. I appreciate the info. Smile
