What my monthly budget looks like...

Here it is. Now, let's see if I can stick to it!

Total to work with: $1580.00
Rent: N/A
Car payment: N/A
Student Loans: $100
Gas for Car: $150
Gas for Home: $75 (this will go up in winter but the electricity will go down).
Electricity: $100
Cable: $40
Home Phone: $30
Cell Phone: $45
Internet: $10
Groceries: $200
Payment to Dad: $100
Payment to Sis: $50 (when what I owe her is paid off, it will go to Dad, then after Dad is paid off, it will all go to Mom).
Payment to Mom: $200
Weight Watchers: $52
Store CC: $100
Other CC: $200 (no interest!)
Extras: $128


It is my 1st attempt at a real budget, so I will see what needs to be tweaked as I get going. I am hoping $200 is too much money for groceries, but since I buy a lot of fresh and specialty stuff for WW, it can get expensive. I think I aimed high on what my student loan payments will be, so I'll have to wait and see on that. The big tricks will really be groceries, gas in the car(!), gas for the house, and electricity. Let's hope it's a mild winter! Any money from book sales, spare change, yard sales, refund, etc. will go right into my savings account.

    I think the student loan amount is going to be too low. I borrowed about $15k less than you did and my payments were about twice as much. Granted that was 10 years ago, the interest was around 8 percent, and the loan term was 10 years. Anyway, I woul double-check that amount against the loan disclosure forms you have just to be sure you budgeted enough.

    I will double check. I am on an Income Contingency Program where they base how much I have to pay on how much I make. When I was making $20K a year and had $25k in student loans, I paid $8.00 a month. Yup, $8.00 Part of the deal also is that if I pay without missing a payment for 20 years, they forgive the balance. So, I am thinking it won't be too high, but you never know. =)
